PC shipments in Western Europe saw a mere 0.7% growth in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008 says Gartner. The UK saw the weakest growth, whilst France and Germany managed low single-digit growth. All told, there were 15.3 million units shipped. The professional sector actually declined by greater than 20%, reflecting the contraction in the business sector.

In the UK, Apple managed to break into the top five, behind HP, Dell, Acer and Toshiba, with a 6.6% growth compared to the 1st quarter of 2008. This was better than it did in France and Germany, where it didn’t make the top five.
