Customise Skype for Mac in theme design competition

Skype for Mac OS XCalling all designers! This is your opportunity to customise Skype for Mac. They’ve just launched a chat style competition to kick things off. When they first launched their new Mac app,  many custom styles emerged from the design community, so as a result they have decided to make it official.

The competition runs until the 29th April and are offering prizes of a brand new MacBook Air, an iPad 2 and a year’s subscription to Unlimited World Extra).

The competition is in three stages, each of 3 weeks. At the end of each stage, 2 winners will be selected; a judges’ choice winner that will be selected by our panel and a people’s choice winner, as voted by others. Following the 3 stages, 6 winners go forward to the final. There are also prizes for runners-up, including iPads and copies of CSS3 for Web Designers – check the competition page for details.

So, if you are the creative type (and I guess many of the readers of this blog are likely to be) why not head over there right now and start dreaming of those cool prizes!

Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac now available

Skype 5 Beta for Mac now availableThis version of Skype now incorporates everything into a single window, enhancing usability. It also integrates your address book to make searching for contacts easier than before. Another feature is the new call control bar, so you can manage calls etc whilst working on other stuff, such as browsing the web. The control bar sits on top of other windows, a bit like the minimised iTunes control bar.

You can also now hold a group video call with family, friends or colleagues. For the group video call everyone on the call needs Skype 5.0 Beta for Mac or Windows for group video to work.
