Bugs in iPhone Apps tarnish Apple’s reputation

It seems Apple’s teething problems with the new 3G iPhone are not yet over. Buggy applications have soured some user’s experience of the new Apps Store, with others complaining that there are no trial versions available or that the selection available are mediocre.

Some users report error messages when trying to install applications, in particular after upgrading to version 2.0.1 of the iPhone firmware. Even after managing to get some applications installed, users report that the applications just refuse to work. Super Monkey Ball is one such application.

Apple has posted a troubleshooting article which recommends uninstalling the applications and then re-installing via a sync.

However, some users report that though initially applications work after going through this procedure, shortly after they refuse to do so. It seems that only a hard reboot resolves the problem. To do this, you need to press and hold the top and front buttons for several seconds, until the screen goes blank.

Still, some applications continue to misbehave and this is leading to frustration for users and many postings to the forums. In addition, those apps that use the iPhone’s in-built accelerometer or have bright screens use up battery juice like there’s no tomorrow.
